Credits

We believe in giving credit. This page lists the tools and services behind SOL3.Earth and says what each one does for us.

These are tools we chose. No company listed here sponsors us or endorses our work. If that ever changes, we will say so on this page.

In the field

  • Cameras and lenses. Nikon. Our current camera is the Nikon Z7. Each Field Captured piece lists the exact camera and lens used.
  • 360 degree video. DJI Osmo 360, with a DJI GPS remote controller for location data.
  • Phone. Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max, for some photographs and for notes in the field.
  • Sound. Sennheiser MKE 200 microphone.
  • Sky brightness. Unihedron Sky Quality Meter (SQM-L), for our dark sky readings.
  • Tracking. Sky-Watcher Star Adventurer GTi. It follows the sky during long exposures.
  • Planning. Stellarium and The Photographer’s Ephemeris. We use them to work out where and when the sky lines up with the land. We also calculate sky events with Skyfield and the JPL DE421 ephemeris.

In the edit

  • Video. Edited in DaVinci Resolve Studio. 360 degree footage is prepared in DJI Studio.
  • Photographs. Developed in Adobe Camera Raw, part of Adobe Photoshop.

AI

  • Images. Midjourney. We use it for AI illustrations, which are published on SOL3.MEDIA at sol3media.com, not here. Every one is labeled as AI.
  • Music. Suno. Much of the ambient music in our videos is made with it and shaped by us. We credit it separately from the picture.
  • Assistant. Claude, an AI assistant made by Anthropic. Claude helps plan shoots, calculate sky events and light, build and maintain this website, research the subjects we cover, and draft some of our writing. We direct the work, check the facts and make the final calls.

How we label AI work is set out in Our Authenticity Standard.

The website

  • Hosting. WordPress.com.
  • Design. The Astra theme by Brainstorm Force.

Sharing and licensing

Our Field Captured photographs and video, as shown on this site at web size, are shared under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-ND 4.0). You may share them unaltered, with credit to SOL3.Earth, for non-commercial purposes.

Commercial use, prints, edits and full-resolution files need our written permission. Write to contact@sol3.earth. The license does not cover the SOL3 name, logos or marks. Music and AI-generated work are not covered by it unless the piece says so.

Authenticity

  • Content Credentials (C2PA). The open standard from the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity. Every piece we mark carries a signed record of how it was made and edited.
  • Adobe Content Authenticity. Where we attach Content Credentials to our work and connect them to our name.
  • Content Authenticity Initiative. The community that promotes Content Credentials and builds the open tools to check them, including verify.contentauthenticity.org. SOL3.MEDIA is a member.

How we use Content Credentials is set out in Our Authenticity Standard.

SOL3.Earth is a project of SOL3.MEDIA LLC.
